Breville in Portola Valley
Breville coffee equipment in Portola Valley.
Portola Valley is a quiet estate town, and a lot of the machines I see here sit unused for stretches, a second kitchen, a guest house, or just a slower week. A machine that sits idle for weeks tends to dry out its gaskets and o-rings, so the first use after a break often shows a leak at the group or portafilter that was not there before.
When it is not a dried-out seal, the calls sound like anywhere else on the Peninsula, weak pressure or a boiler that will not hold temperature on an Oracle or Dual Boiler. I check for the idle-time causes first here, since they are specific to how these machines get used in this town, before moving to the usual pump and OPV checks.
The $150 deposit includes pickup, bench diagnosis, and return and is not credited toward repair. Extra bench time is $150 per hour. Diagnostics can take up to a week; most repairs run 3–4 weeks. That is exactly why we recommend preventive maintenance: a maintained machine does not sit in a repair queue for a month.
Common repairs we do
What we close on the truck.
- Leak at the group after the machine sat unused. A dried-out group gasket or o-ring is the most common cause of a new leak on a machine that has not run in weeks. I replace the seal, run a few cycles to reseat it, and confirm the leak is gone rather than guess.
- Weak brew pressure. Once seals are ruled out, I gauge the group for actual pressure and check the pump and OPV, the same as I would on a machine that runs every day.
- Boiler not holding temperature. A thermostat or heating element can fail whether the machine runs daily or only on weekends. I meter both separately so the part I replace is the one that actually tested bad.
Pickup · bench diagnosis · return

We pick up the machine in Portola Valley, diagnose it on our bench, and bring it back. Pickup and return are included. No drop-off counter and no lugging your machine across the bridge.
Pickup, bench diagnosis, and return deposits start at $150. Jura, Miele, and home La Marzocco machines are $175; commercial La Marzocco equipment is $250–$550. The deposit is not credited toward the repair. See the accepted brands and exclusions on our home espresso machine repair page.

How long does service take?
Diagnostics can take up to a week; most repairs run 3–4 weeks. That is exactly why we recommend preventive maintenance: a maintained machine does not sit in a repair queue for a month. -
My machine has not been used much, does that matter?
It can. A machine that sits idle for weeks often develops a leak from a dried-out gasket or o-ring the first time it runs again. I check for that specifically before assuming something bigger has failed. -
What does pickup and bench diagnosis cost?
The $150 deposit includes pickup, bench diagnosis, and return and is not credited toward repair. Extra bench time is $150 per hour. Diagnostics can take up to a week; most repairs run 3–4 weeks.
