Breville espresso machine repair, done by an independent shop

Breville espresso machines range from the compact Bambino and Barista series to the Oracle, Oracle Touch, and BES920 Dual Boiler. They land in homes, offices, and small setups all over the Bay Area, and we accept every espresso model for repair.

Which models we take: every Breville espresso model, including the Bambino and Bambino Plus, Barista Pro, Barista Express, Barista Touch, Oracle, Oracle Touch, and Dual Boiler (BES920).

The common calls on the Oracle and Dual Boiler: heat and temperature faults that trace to a boiler element, thermostat, or thermal cutout rather than a dead board; steam-boiler problems; weak or no pressure from the pump or OPV that leaves the shot flat; grinder wear on the Oracle, where dulling burrs and a drifting dose turn the shot thin or bitter; and the water side, where Bay Area scale chokes flow and pushes temperature off until the machine gets a proper descale.

We pick the machine up, diagnose it on the bench, and return it. The $150 deposit covers pickup, diagnosis, and return and is not credited toward repair. Extra bench time is $150 per hour. Diagnostics can take up to a week; most repairs run 3–4 weeks. Everything we quote is in writing before we start the repair.

From a recent job

A Breville Barista Pro (Model BES878) came in from Concord that would only run for about five seconds and then shut off. We opened it up and found the thermostat had come off the heater element, so the machine’s thermal protection read wrong and cut power almost immediately. We reseated the thermostat back onto the element and it ran normally again, no parts needed.

The Breville nameplate: Coffee Machine Model BES878 BTR/A, 120V, 1680W.

Inside the Breville: the heater element on the left and the grinder gear assembly on the right.

The thermostat that had detached from the heater element; reseating it fixed the fault with no parts.

A note on this one: the Barista series is part of the Breville range we accept, along with the Bambino, Oracle, and Dual Boiler lines.

Breville questions, answered.

  • Is a Breville worth repairing?
We accept every Breville espresso model. Whether a repair makes sense depends on the fault, and the bench findings and written quote make that decision clear before repair starts.
  • My Barista Express lost pressure. What is it?
Usually scale, a clogged shower screen, or the OPV drifting out of spec. A service and recalibration fixes most of them.
  • What does pickup and bench diagnosis cost?
The pickup, bench diagnosis, and return deposit is $150. It is not credited toward the repair.
