What we do. What we fix.

The repair you don’t pay for is the one you prevented

Most emergency espresso failures aren’t sudden. They build. Scale creeps into the boiler and heat exchanger, gaskets harden, valves gum up, and one busy morning it all comes due at once, usually during a rush. Regular maintenance is the cheapest way to keep that morning from happening.

The Bay Area’s water is hard enough to matter. Pull a few thousand shots through it and the mineral buildup will choke flow, throw off temperature, and put extra strain on the pump and element. Descaling on a schedule keeps the machine doing what it did the day you bought it.

What a maintenance visit includes

  • Descale the boiler, heat exchanger, and water paths
  • Replace group gaskets and shower screens
  • Check and adjust brew temperature and boiler pressure
  • Test pump pressure against spec and adjust the OPV
  • Inspect and clean steam wands, valves, and pickup tubes
  • Backflush the groups and clear the solenoids
  • Check the grinder burrs and dose accuracy
  • Inspect water filter status and flag a change if it’s due
  • Look over seals, hoses, and fittings for early wear

We leave you with a short note on what we did and what to watch before the next visit. No surprises.

Signs you’re overdue

Slower flow than the machine used to have. Scale narrowing the paths.

Temperature that won’t hold steady. Mineral coating the boiler wall and insulating the element.

Steam that’s lost its punch. Scaled wand and a tired boiler.

Gaskets that leak or weep around the group. Rubber goes hard with heat and time. Cheap to replace on a schedule, expensive when it fails mid-service.

How we schedule it

Volume drives the interval. A high-output bar in Livermore or Berkeley might want quarterly service. A lower-volume office machine or a restaurant that runs a handful of pots a day can go longer. We’ll look at your machine and your numbers and quote a plan that fits, not a one-size package.

If you’d rather we assess the machine first, we can do a one-time diagnostic for $75 and tell you honestly what shape it’s in and what a sensible schedule looks like.

Brands we maintain

La Marzocco, Nuova Simonelli, Victoria Arduino, Rancilio, Slayer, Synesso, Astoria, CMA, Wega, the bean-to-cup office brands, and batch brewers from Bunn, Curtis, and Fetco. We’re a Franke Coffee Systems certified technician on the A-Line super-automatics, so Franke maintenance is done to factory spec. Astoria, CMA, and Wega parts come through our RCW distributor partner.

Why it’s worth it

A descaling and gasket service costs a fraction of a boiler replacement or a busted pump, and far less than a dead machine on a Saturday morning. We’re an independent shop, so when we recommend a service interval, it’s because your machine needs it, not because we’re selling a contract.
