Olympia Express repair for Cremina and Maximatic

Olympia Express builds machines the slow Swiss way. Most of the parts are made in Switzerland, each machine is assembled by hand, and the design is meant to stay repairable for decades. The Cremina started with the Cremina 67, changed through the 1996 and 2002 generations, and continues today as a compact manual-lever machine with a 49 mm group. Early machines can have a brass boiler. Later versions moved to stainless steel while keeping a chromed-brass brew group. The Maximatic adds an electric pump and heat-exchanger circuit for someone who wants the same compact build with push-button brewing.

These are roughly $3,000 to $4,000 machines. That does not make every repair sensible, but it does make a careful bench diagnosis worth doing before anyone writes the machine off.

What I check on a Cremina

• Piston and lever seals. The piston cups and other lever-group seals harden, drag, and eventually leak. A worn seal can make the lever feel wrong before water appears outside the group.
• Group sleeve and gasket. A scored or worn group sleeve damages new seals quickly. I inspect the bore instead of treating every leak as a gasket-only job.
• Boiler heat and pressure. The heating element, pressurestat, wiring, and thermal protection all have to agree. A machine that heats slowly or runs too hot needs measurements, not a guessed part.
• Steam valve and sight glass. Valve packing, stem seals, sight-glass seals, and fittings age under constant heat. Small leaks leave mineral tracks that show where to start.
• Safety valve and lever hardware. I check the boiler safety valve, lever linkage, and return spring for wear and free movement.
• Scale. Scale builds in the brew path, on brass group parts, and in the boiler. Older brass-boiler machines need a different eye than later stainless-boiler versions.

What I check on a Maximatic

The Maximatic is pump-driven, so its fault list is different. I test the pump under load, the three-way valve, the pressurestat, the boiler element, and the heat-exchanger path. A noisy pump, low brew pressure, weak steam, or water left at the group can point to different parts. The machine stays on the bench until the pressure and temperature readings tell the same story.

Pickup, diagnosis, and parts timing

We pick the machine up, diagnose it on the bench, and return it. The $250 deposit includes pickup, bench diagnosis, and return delivery. It is not credited toward the repair. You get a written repair quote before work starts.

Diagnostics can take up to a week; most repairs run 3-4 weeks. Some Olympia Express parts have to come from Switzerland, and that can add weeks. I confirm availability and the likely lead time before you approve the repair. Same-day pickup can be arranged; same-day repair is not the service model.
