Rocket Espresso repair for serious home setups
Rocket Espresso is an Italian manufacturer building real cafe-grade machines sized and priced for a home counter, the $3,000-and-up tier where the R58, R NINE ONE, Appartamento, and Giotto live. These are E61 group machines with rotary or vibratory pumps, PID temperature control, and, on the R58 and R NINE ONE, separate brew and steam boilers doing their own thing at the same time. It’s the same architecture as the cafe machines we work on every week, just in a body meant for a kitchen.
We service Rocket Espresso machines as independent technicians. We’re not a Rocket dealer and we don’t hold a factory authorization on the brand. We work on the platform because we know E61 groups and dual-boiler machines inside out, not because of a manufacturer relationship.
What tends to break on Rocket Espresso machines
- E61 group head. Worn group gaskets and dispersion screens, a mushroom gasket gone hard, a three-way solenoid valve that sticks or weeps.
- Dual boiler faults (R58, R58 Cinquantotto, R NINE ONE). Brew and steam boilers run independently, so a fault often shows on just one side: fine brew temperature with weak steam, or the reverse.
- Pump and pressure. Rotary pump wear on the dual-boiler machines, vibratory pump wear on the Appartamento, an OPV that’s drifted off 9 bar.
- PID and heating elements. A PID controller that won’t hold set temperature, a heating element or thermal fuse near end of life, a thermostat or thermal cutout tripping early.
- Scale. Bay Area water is hard, and a dual boiler with two separate heating chambers scales up on both sides at once. Regular descaling keeps the group and both boilers from choking.

How it works
We pick the machine up, diagnose it on the bench, and return it. The $150 deposit covers all three steps and is not credited toward repair. Extra bench time is $150 per hour. My R58 has good brew temperature but weak steam. What's wrong?
On a dual-boiler machine the brew and steam sides run independently, so this usually points to the steam boiler element, the steam pressurestat, or scale sitting in that boiler specifically, not the group or the brew side. -
Is a Rocket worth repairing, or should I just replace it?
Almost always worth repairing. These are E61 machines built to be serviced, not thrown away, and most faults are a gasket, a solenoid, an element, or scale. We'll tell you honestly if a job doesn't make sense.
