What breaks. What we fix.
Nuova Simonelli repair, done by people who run these machines daily
Nuova Simonelli builds some of the most common workhorse espresso machines in Bay Area cafes. The Aurelia and Appia show up behind counters everywhere, the Musica and Oscar run in offices and smaller shops, and the Talento and Prontobar super-automatics handle high-volume self-serve setups. We service all of them.
A quick note on where we stand: we are an independent service company, not a Nuova Simonelli factory-authorized dealer. We repair the equipment, source the parts, and keep it running. We don’t claim a sales authorization we don’t have. What we do have is years of hands-on time with these machines and a parts pipeline that covers Nuova Simonelli’s common wear items.
What tends to break on Nuova Simonelli machines
The Aurelia and Appia are reliable, but they’re also worked hard. After enough shots, a few patterns repeat:
- Group head and grouphead seals. The portafilter gasket flattens out, you start getting blow-by around the basket, and pressure drops. Same family of issue across Aurelia, Appia, and Musica. The fix is straightforward once you catch it.
- Solenoid valves sticking or leaking. A three-way solenoid that won’t fully close means dribbling groups or a puck that won’t dry. We test, clean, or replace.
- Boiler and heating element trouble. Element failure, a tripped safety thermostat, or scale buildup that kills recovery time. Hard water in parts of the East Bay speeds this up.
- Pump pressure and brew pressure off spec. Rotary pump wear, a clogged gicleur, or an OPV that’s drifted. Your baristas notice before the gauge does.
- Temperature instability. PID or pressurestat acting up on the digital Aurelias, or a flaky thermostat on the simpler Oscar and Appia models.
- Steam wand and steam valve leaks. Worn steam valve seats and tired wand gaskets. Common, cheap to fix, annoying when ignored.
- Super-automatic faults on Talento and Prontobar. Brew group jams, grinder issues, water-path errors, and the sensor and board faults that come with more electronics. These take longer to diagnose, and we’re honest about that up front.
What we service
Espresso, steam, and water systems on the full Nuova Simonelli traditional line (Aurelia, Aurelia Wave, Appia, Appia Life, Musica, Oscar, Easy), the super-automatics (Talento, Prontobar, Microbar), and the Mythos grinder family. Diagnostics, leaks, pressure and temperature problems, solenoid and valve work, boiler and element replacement, descaling, gasket and seal kits, and grinder burr and adjustment work.
How a call works
We pick the machine up, diagnose it on the bench, and return it. The $150 deposit covers all three steps and is not credited toward repair; extra bench time is $150 per hour. Diagnostics can take up to a week, and most repairs run 3–4 weeks. We confirm the repair plan and parts timing in writing.
Hours are 7AM to 7PM, seven days. Call (925) 999-4095 or email [email protected].

Nuova Simonelli questions, answered.
-
My Appia is losing steam pressure mid-rush. What's the usual cause?
Scale on the heating element or a tired pressurestat. Bay Area water is hard, and steam boilers take it worst. We descale, test the element, and replace the pressurestat if it's drifting. -
Do you service the Aurelia and Oscar lines too?
Yes. Aurelia, Appia, Oscar, and Musica. Volumetric dosing faults, group solenoids, pumps, and full preventive service. -
The volumetric doses drift on my Aurelia. Board or flowmeter?
Usually the flowmeter turbine scales up or clogs long before the board fails. We test the flowmeter first. It's the cheaper fix and it's usually the right one. -
How much is pickup and bench diagnosis?
The pickup, bench diagnosis, and return deposit is $150. It is not credited toward the repair.
