- Weak pressure and a loud pump on a Dual Boiler. A pump that's gotten loud while the shot runs thin usually means a worn vibration pump or an OPV bleeding off pressure too soon. I gauge the machine at the group, load-test the pump, and reset or swap the OPV. On a Dual Boiler running daily in a small Albany kitchen, this is one of the most common repairs I do.
- Flat crema from an Oracle. A fast, pale shot with no real crema usually traces to low brew pressure or a worn shower screen and gasket that let water skip around the puck instead of through it. I check pressure first, then the screen, dispersion plate, and group seal. If pressure is normal, grind and dose get checked before any parts get replaced.
- Descale warning that will not clear. Albany's water is hard enough that a descale light coming back right after a cycle usually means scale has built up past what a flush clears. I run a full descale, clear the solenoid and flow path, and confirm the sensor resets clean. If it's a board fault instead of scale, that gets tested too, so you're not paying to descale a machine that doesn't need it.
