La Marzocco in Half Moon Bay
La Marzocco coffee equipment in Half Moon Bay.
Main Street and the harbor restaurants in Half Moon Bay run La Marzocco Linea PB and GB5 machines through a weekend brunch crowd that outsizes the town's population. Salt air off the coast is hard on these machines in a way inland cafes never deal with, it pits chrome and corrodes fittings faster than a normal service schedule accounts for.
We also cover the small towns up and down the coast from here, Montara, Moss Beach, and El Granada, so a cafe up Highway 1 gets the same response as one two blocks from the harbor.
Coastside homes run serious espresso setups too. When I check a Linea Mini in a home kitchen out here, I'm looking for the same salt air wear I'd flag on a restaurant machine, not just the usual scale and gasket check.
Common repairs we do
What we close on the truck.
- Steam wand and chrome corrosion. Salt air pits chrome finish and corrodes the steam tip faster here than anywhere inland. I replace the wand tip and check the wand body for pitting at every bench service.
- Boiler fitting corrosion. Brass fittings and gaskets around the boiler break down quicker on the coast. I inspect them closer than I would in a dry inland town and replace what's starting to go before it fails outright.
- Relay and electrical contact cleaning. Coastal humidity corrodes contacts and relays, and that shows up as an intermittent fault that's hard to pin down over the phone. I open the electrical box, clean the contacts, and replace any relay that's pitted.
Honest repair timing
A repair queue is easier to avoid than to rush.
We pick up the machine in Half Moon Bay, diagnose it on the bench, and return it. Pickup and return are included, and you get the repair quote after diagnosis.
Diagnostics can take up to a week; most repairs run 3–4 weeks. That is exactly why we recommend preventive maintenance. A maintained machine does not sit in a repair queue for a month.
