A La Cimbali G50 can appear to run normally while no ground coffee reaches the portafilter. Its fault chart names several possible causes, including the hopper shutter, an empty hopper, compacted beans and the condition or spacing of the burrs. You cannot distinguish all of those from the sound of the motor.
The source is G50 Use and Installation, code 765-059-010, physical PDF page 44, printed page 18 EN. These are symptom descriptions, not numbered error codes. The M26 and Elective display guide concerns different equipment.
First separate no power from no coffee
The G50 chart distinguishes an appliance that will not run with its ON lamp dark from one whose lamp is lit. For the dark lamp, it lists missing electrical power and the main-switch position as checks. Look at the normal switch and an accessible power connection without opening the base or touching damaged wiring.
With the lamp lit but the grinder stopped, the chart names a fastener ring nut that is not tightened correctly, leaving a safety microswitch open. If the problem began after hopper cleaning, tell us. Do not hold that switch closed or run the grinder with a loose hopper to test the theory.
It runs, but the dosing outlet stays empty
For this symptom the chart lists four alternatives: the shutter is closed, the hopper has no beans, beans have compacted across the feed, or the burr gap and retained grounds prevent normal grinding. Check the visible bean supply and the external shutter against the G50 instructions. Switch off before handling the hopper, and leave hands and utensils out of the grinding chamber.
The hopper-care sequence on PDF page 42 shows the machine switched off before hopper removal, and says the hopper can only be removed or fitted with its shutter closed. If you are unfamiliar with that sequence, leave the assembly in place for service. We do not recommend loosening burrs or clearing a blockage from this article.
A new grinding noise changes the decision
The fault chart lists a foreign object in the grinding chamber as a cause of abnormal noise. Stop using a grinder that develops an unfamiliar harsh sound and have it inspected. Repeated doses are not a useful owner test for an object near the burrs.
When you request grinder service, include the G50 model, whether its ON lamp is lit and what happened before output stopped. A photo of the hopper and normal controls helps; keep any loose object out of the machine. We diagnose the feed and grinder before quoting a repair.
La Cimbali equipment service is independent. Tell us it’s a G50 grinder when you book. Our grinder repair page at ADRIUM explains how pickup and bench diagnosis work.
